Kanangra-Boyd National Park

This was a short weekend trip to the Blue Mountains with friends, which I usually don't add to the blog. I had, however, one of my most amazing wildlife experiences, so I thought it would be worth recording. A Spotted-tailed Quoll came into our camp site and decided to hang around for a while. This native Australian marsupial is listed nationally as endangered and very rarely seen in the wild. It was fantastic to get checked out by such a beautiful and cheeky animal.

The Boyd River camp site is gorgeous! If you want a good night sleep though, don't camp there. Greater gliders, sugar gliders, wallabies and possums are making a lot of noise all night long! For somebody like me, it's paradise!

View from the Kanangra walls lookout, with the sandstone walls on the right.

Standing on top of Kanangra walls looking north, which is a completely different geology. These valleys are mostly inaccessible for people and a haven for Australian wildlife.

There is always something blooming in the Australian bush...

.... and always somebody who loves the hot weather!

  3. Hello, we just returned from the campsite on the 12th January and had the same experience with the Quoll wandering about our feet for over an hour. He also can climb trees as he dragged down a rubbish bag during the night but nothing in there for him to eat fortunately. Very cool experience!
