Japan 2019 - Shimanami Kaido

Shimanami Kaido is a 70 km toll road crossing the Seto inland sea and connecting Shikoku via six small islands with the main island Honshu. A well signed cycling trail has been established with its own access ramps to the amazing bridges. It is considered the best cycling trail in Japan and is hugely popular. We had a fabulous day for it and loved it!

We were lucky to be there on a weekend - extra entertainment.

The most expensive coffee yet! But with a fabulous view!

The islands are known for citrus fruit, the smell of orange blossom everywhere was divine!

They must have run out of money for the last bridge! It turned out to be a ferry.

In Onomichi we stayed at the U2 Cycling Hotel, which caters specifically to cyclists. It is a converted warehouse with bakery, bike shop, restaurant and bar - pretty cool, but over-priced. The breakfast rolls were sensational though! I have to admit, I can’t get used to having rice, fish and miso in the morning.

  1. Not a cloud in the sky. Those bread rolls look delicious although rice, fish and miso are probably much more healthy so you must be dropping the weight like crazy.
