Our first stop in Hiroshima was the Naka waste incineration plant, a modern glass and metal construction designed by a famous Japanese architect. Kirsten’s choice, not mine!
Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park commemorates the dropping of the atomic bomb during WWII and the unfathomable loss and destruction it caused. It is horrendous what humans are capable of doing to each other! The eye-witness accounts and personal stories of survivors are very difficult to absorb. Genbaku Dome is one of the few buildings left standing near ground zero and has been preserved in that condition.
Hiroshima also has a castle (a replica) and a beautiful garden, Shukkeien.
This bride and groom were more than happy to pose for the tourists, as well as their own photographers.
The ever-present koi in Japanese gardens, a symbol of love and friendship.
